Notification of planned upgrades
At Kingston Communications (KC) we are committed to providing the best possible experience for our customers. To deliver this, we are investing £2.8million on a strategic transformation programme that will ultimately upgrade our networks to a Next Generation Network (NGN). Overall this will improve the reliability and performance of the network, bringing you a better online experience.

When and how will this happen?
A series of planned network upgrades will be taking place over the coming months and we will be keeping you informed at each stage of the process. The first adjustment will take place during Sunday 28th March during the early hours of the morning and may last several hours.

This means that customers who are online at this time will experience a disruption to their connection. This will affect any online activity, including scheduled downloads and online back-ups. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause you. Reconnection will happen automatically.
We will keep you updated on further programmes as they occur.

Can anyone explain to me NGN, is it similar to the BT 21C project? Which something to do with simplifying the core network. - Anyone care to explain what it is please.

I don't see how such an upgrade would have an effect on broadband.

More Spin - I am suprised that all you Hull people arent dizzy yet ? (and not with excitement !) - I am ex Hull business owner and loved in the KC area for 10 years and moved all of my business and my clients business out of Hull due to the poor performance of KC. There are at least several more considering a relocation of which 2 are major major businesses.

Looks like core router replacement or maybe their moving to a softswitch platform that will carry both voice and data traffic between their exchanges - highly unlikely though as Macaroni System "X" hasnt yet been end of lifed by Ericsson but you never know. Be interesting to know.

Does the KC vision / version of NGN mean up to 40 Mb/s with packet shaping over a contended network and you still cant view IPLAYER that only requires a progressive download capability of 256kb/s - oops sorry KC ! I forgot you dont like people using the "C" word.

East Riding Council are that fed up they have installed their own fibre for their schools etc !!!

I too have just about moved my business out of the grasp of Karoo as their Internet Service is not up to it.  From the actual cost of what you are getting to the sheer lack of scope of their services compared to the "norm" outside of Hull.

All in all Karoo are SHIT Smiley for business.

Thats what happens when they spend all their cash cow profits on failing companies in London rather then spending it on infrastructure in Hull.  If you look at the money (lost / spent) 2/3rds of homes in Hull could be fiber optic and all businesses could be fiber optic and Hull could be the envy of the country with regards to broadband.  As it is its like everything else, bottom of the list.
