Well I'm finally moving to ADSL2+, I spoke to Tech support before I ordered it about the possibility of ADSL2 instead of ADSL2+ if there is a problem with my line length (4.1Km) he wasn't aware of a difference at first, now he is (I told him) he wasn't aware of an ADSL2 profile available but he is going to find out for me, if anyone is interested in the results I'll post them here shortly after my line settles down, I get swapped over on the 2nd March.
the other thing he found out is there is a fault on my line (about the 4th fault I've had in as many years) and he's getting it sorted for me.

Overall tech support is improving and definitely much more polite and helpful, but I still don't think they are giving them enough training.

That's good, at least it may improve things overall. In terms of ADSL2, I have found that if you get put onto an ADSL2+ profile, then you should be able to tell your modem router to negotiate with only ADSL2 and not 2+.

I am able to set any mode I like without any problems. With ADSL2+ I sync at 17406/1023 and when using ADSL2 I get ~12500/1024.

I cannot train up with ADSL2 regardless, so it may vary across DSLAM. I can train ADSL however, with my line length (atten = 60) makes no difference being on adsl1 or 2 really.

I received a phone call from the Tech support guy I was speaking to previously and he has had a word with the engineers that sort out the profiles. They said if there is a problem with the ADSL2+ profiles they would experiment with ADSL2 profiles to aid long line lengths.

I wish I had written the tech support guys name down as he has been the most helpful person I have EVER talked to from Karoo as I would have written and email to Karoo praising him.

Also there is a lot of modem/routers that don't give you a choice in the type of ADSL it trains up with Belkin is the worst offender.

There are a few very knowledgeable, helpful people there, sounds like you were lucky Smiley

It's good that they are taking things on board and are willing to look at the possibilities!

Yea Belkins, sometims with limited web user interface options but they do usually have hidden pages, many of which are here:

I've looked at the hidden pages before on kitz but there aren't any for the later modem/routers that I can find, I wouldn't normally buy Belkin but I managed to get the F5D8635 N+ modem router with the USB for storage devices for £60 so decided to get it even with the limited setup pages

They are supposed to log every call so it should be on your file.  Just tell them when it was and they should be able to look it up.
