Good as it has been getting worse by the day over the past 3 weeks!

Traffic shaping on this and newsgroups is the worst I have ever seen it.   It is deffo timed.  As soon as the clock turns 2300 speeds start picking up.

I could not connect to Iplayer last night and was getting less than 50k on newsgroups.   30 quid a month for this rubbish!

You're going to investigate?

You've already had almost a month to come to a conclusion - buy more bandwidth.

Any news as to when these planned upgrades are going to be implemented?

There are several workstreams in progress to address bandwidth and other issues. I can't give exact dates because I don't want to set any false expectations, but you should start to see some benefit over the next few weeks. The full programme of work may take several months to complete. We are trying to ensure that disruption is kept to a minimum, which complicates the whole process and slows it down. Rest assured, we know how important your broadband performance is to you and we are making every effort to develop our network and services to meet increasing demand.

Cheers

excellent, thanks FKCE.  If you're looking at upgrading your services, can you provide me with free Sky television then as one of your new services?  Sky would give me free broadband and telephone calls for £30 a month, its only fair if i give you £30 for the telephone and broadband that you give me free sky channels. If it's going to take a couple of month's to complete a programme of work to provide us with a service, could you also take down your billing system for a couple of months, I do not pay to wait.

I know it's frustrating guys, but I'm sure you appreciate - like I do - that KC staff post here to let us know what's going on. To that end I'd just like to say thanks FKCE for bothering to get back to us.

Just to add another voice of support to FKCE's cause, he doesn't have to come here and play intermediary but he does and often provides some fantastic advice; looking at what he said yesterday they're looking at doing upgrades etc without bringing down the whole network or segments of the network for hours at a time - BONUS.

I am thankful for the information, and of course he or she doesn't have to do this.

I am still, however, frustrated that it could be months before an already month long issue is resolved.  I am not trying to get at individuals, but I am trying to express how frustrated I am with the whole service.

Just to sum up, I CBA to read 5 pages...
iPlayer desktop uses p2p so WILL be shaped for DOWNLOADING episodes
iPlayer web uses HTTP so is not shaped under normal conditions.

I think the conclusion is that on Max everything is shaped (or the Max bandwidth spoonful is so low that its so highly contended) down to about 0.5mbps these days between 6 and 11.  I can't watch iPlayer, 4oD or Sky Player during these times.

I think only bitttorrent and newsgroups are shaped further below this on Max.  In the past iPlayer streams where shaped deliberately, as the helpdesk admitted to me the Packet Shaper incorrectly identified the streams as p2p.

With regards to iPlayer downloads, while p2p, this is all perfectly legal and above board, and I would hope shaping would be removed from this.  Karoo need to come out of the 19th century and join us in the 21st.

For those of us with slow connections in the so called 'not spots' that Hull has we CAN'T stream, physically it won't happen no matter what time of the day as the connection just isn't fast enough... So we have to download, why should we be penalised?
