The reason for that is the Karoo SMTP server only allows mail to be sent from KC network addresses, if you want to send email you will need to use Orange's SMTP server or some other kind of authenticated SMTP server.

Oh. Ok sorted now. You have to enter this for outgoing server :- smtp.orange.net

I have set up my email on my iphone, I can recieve and send email at home when connected to wifi & when I disconnect my wifi it will send too. My problem is while I have been at work today I have spent all day trying to email a hotmail account and it just wouldn't send saying there is a problem with the smtp server.

Set up is

Primary server smtp.orange.net
SSL Off
Server Port 25

I have heard you may have more joy changing the server port but I dont understand what this does or what to change it too.
 Huh? Huh?

It's also likely the Orange SMTP server will only allow email to be sent from devices connected to the Orange network (if it isn't authenticated) hence why you can't send email through Orange while you're connecte to your Karoo line.

As a compromise it might be worth setting up a google mail account and pumping all your karoo email through that, they provide a smtp server that is connection agnostic.

That's a good idea, probably the best thing to do as he can use the same settings on any network that he is connected to.

smtp.gmail.com
port 465
SSL on

once you have setup the gmail account Smiley

Can't believe that just took so long to get an answer and believe it or not half from here and half from the O2 forum.

As with all the other posts, it boils down to KC's smtp policy so, in addition to the ones below:-

As an orange customer you have an e-mail by default with them (although again this is a nightmare to activate as my IP was  blocked from setting up the account. I suspect something to do with KC/Karoo policy)

So using a vpn connection (substitute by using any non karoo internet service if you can), create your orange e-mail account. This is only to give you authentication to the orange mail server so no need to worry about re-directing mail from one account to another

In my case this was an fsmail account i.e. username@fsmail.net

On your iphone

Firstly, ensure you disconnect from the Karoo wireless service and that the 3g logo is displayed on the phone

Then in your email settings (for whichever e-mail account it is that you're trying to use), select smtp

It gives you the option to add smtp servers

Once in that screen

server  = smtp.orange.net
Username = username@fsmail.net (substitute with any other domain you were given)
password = whatever password you chose

select save. it will then come back a minute or so later asking if you want to try the non SSL service, select yes

it will shortly then come back to the smtp screen and you should turn on the Orange server.

I've just tested it and although both servers are switched on it will route outbound emails using either depending on whether you're using 3g or karoo wireless.

Bit convoluted, but hope this helps others.

Odd, I have been using my mail from the Orange mobile to send unauthenticated SMTP for years and today I get access denied, used my OLD OLD OLD Orange Email details for the SMTP login and I can now send email again.

Strange, thanks for the heads up.
