under 1mb on http here Smiley joy

imagine when more people more over adsl2 through the new packages (afaik max customers share different bandwidth) and they increase transfer quota!

what do we think, 50kb? Surely they are going to increase bandwidth available? what was this talk about upgrading network? it is worse than it was 6 months ago! karoo? fail!

Well it would be nice if they updated this:

http://www.karoo.co.uk/announcement.aspx

Also they mention investment etc.. but never say what they have invested in.

Browsing ok, but any downloads are going to take a while

As usual, any traffic other than HTTP may aswell be blocked.

Well people streaming "stuff" is part of the cause of the massive slow downs, but then people pay for their connections so should be able to use them how they wish.
i.e. stream a football game if they like. Most of the football streaming wont be in a very high bitrate anyway.

Therefore it is not the fault of the customer, but Kingstons fault for not having enough bandwidth.

We noticed a number of tweets last night to our Twitter account about poor downloads speeds. Following an investigation this morning, we are aware that due to illegal streaming of the Man U game, consequently utilising a lot of additional bandwidth on the network, some users will have noticed slower speeds than usual. We're really sorry for those of you that were impacted and would like to assure you we do everything we can to make sure traffic is managed fairly on our network.

The peering database shows that the national KCOM/MISTRAL/ECLIPSE network has recently been upgraded with a massive amount of bandwidth, wheres the Karoo upgrades?

Hi Sean

You will only be tied into a new 12 month contract if you take the free hardware - so you are free to switch packages without a new contract with Mid 2.

Thanks

Thank You, but this contradicts an email I got from Customer Services.  Maybe he didn't realise I wanted to pass on the hardware, but he wrote "When you transfer onto any of the new packages you enter into a contracted period".

The person who emailed me also didn't seem too clued up on the changes either, they sent me an email on February 9th PM telling me there would be new packages, but no details available yet, yet they where announced on twitter the morning of the 8th  Cheesy

Its time we got the local government to realise the people of this town need to be able to choose BB provider, how much money do you think we would need to be invested in the infrastructure to allow other operators to offer BB without a huge investment themselves?

I have the ear of nearly 500 local people who could help lobby the local government to help. but we need a plan!
Would it not be better to lobby an isp saying we could guarantee you a couple of thousand new customers if you came to Hull with us all signing contracts or something saying we'll all switch to your product if you offered it in Hull. That way they'd know they wouldn't be wasting any money setting up here.

If we could tempt one isp the rest would follow.

I doubt any other ISP would be any better running over the KC infrastructure, also imagine the massive costs associated with getting their own bandwidth into Hull?
Best thing we can do is keep pestering KC until they listen and improve it, the recent announcements show that works!

No IPS will come to Hull when they can invest a lot less elsewhere in BT land. We need to local government to step in and pay the difference to entice other providers into Hull.

I don't have a problem with the service its the total cost of my Broadband, phone and TV I have a problem with, Unless KCOM do a deal with SKY, I want a triple package, if KCOM can't offer it than I will always lobby for anther provider. Were getting ripped off!
