Anybody still on the Karoo Max packages?

I am on Karoo Max Option 2 and can barely stream anything, even YouTube these days.  Constant buffering, massive packet loss evident in Wireshark.

I am in HU6 area.  I have complained to Karoo who reminded me that I am on Option 2 of 4 and that I should upgrade to ADSL2+ blah blah (which aint happening on the current packages).

Hi Sean

Really sorry you are disappointed with your Karoo Max 2 connection - we don't have any details for release today but we will be making an announcement about some improvements and changes to the ADSL2+ services next week. Keep a look out on Twitter for updates. We would love to hear your feedback on these and hope we can get you moved to a faster, more reliable service.

Many thanks

Nice! Hopefully give them MAX customers who are borderline the carrot they need to move accross! Too much ear-ache from friends etc.. about MAX.

On Option 2 Karoo Max here too. Service has been crap lately.  The wife gave up trying to work twice this week in the evening as things ground to a standstill.  Not much incentive to change to new service though out here east of Hull: no speed increase, download limit. I don't see why I should have to change to new tariffs to get a reasonable service.  If I were being cynical, I might even think the poor service was deliberate in order to drive people to the new tariffs .... nah, Karoo wouldn't do that.

Mate, your issues don't sound package related. Max packages do slow down during peak hours but your connection should ALWAYS be STABLE and USABLE. If it isn't, you have technical issues that haven't been addressed yet.

There are very good reasons to be reluctant for many of us to upgrade:

1. I can only get 4.5mbps sync on MAX.  I have been blind tested on ADSL2+ in the past when I complained about Max (they did this to back up my accurate theory it was the packet shaping on MAX crippling iPlayer), and I synced at 5.5mbps but the line was unstable, so when I do finally go to ADSL2+ im worried the sync will end up even lower than currently.  (This was a poorer router, so it may be better)

2. Because of (1) I won't benefit hugely from ADSL2+ at all, all that "may" happen is I can do the stuff (streaming) I should in theory be able to do already, I don't see that as a big plus to be honest.

3. Because of (1) and (2) I can't justify paying more.  I use about 25-30GB a month, so the only feasible package currently is Karoo Pro at £29.99 compared to the £19.99 I pay now.

While it's good Karoo are doing something, unless that something is reducing the price of Pro to Mid, or at least updating the Mid usage to 30GB, it's not much in my opinion.

I'll also need to restart a new 12 month contract.  Currently I live with parents, and they use the internet very little, if I move out, can I take the contract with me, or are they expected to keep a package they wont use?  (The line etc. is in their name, I just pay it)

I understand where you're coming from, I'd be the same if my connection had little to benefit from moving over.

Hopefully Karoo have listened to the general aura of feedback, I also have sent them emails in the past regarding the packages.

It's likely you will need to start a new contract unless you pay £47 for a rolling contract, but if you move I think you can transfer it.

Keep a look out on Twitter for updates. We would love to hear your feedback on these...

As you're using our forum to poll customer opinion it'd also be polite for you to post announcements here too don't you think? Surely that wouldn't take too much effort?  Grin

Lots of love,

Im on Karoo Max Option 2 .

I've joined the forum today after lurking for a while and Im just getting terrible buffering with sites like Youtube, iplayer, movie trailers etc..

Ive been doing regular tests at speedtest.net and my router is connected at 8mb but during the day early eve its 5-6 mb then on an evening it drops to 0.5-2mb download

So I phoned tech spport and the lady said to ignore speedtest.net reasons which eluded me I assume its because it doesnt take into account karoos throttling lol.

Ive checked my bandwith useage today as i got a letter from karoo saying upgrade for free to ADSL2 as your useage is close to 30gb a month and you will be dropped to 284K ( NOT EVEN BROADBAND SPEED ) if you go over, im not even close averaging about 16gb a month!

Anyways back to the crap speed, lady told me to download something from microsoft.com which i did even though im on a mac! 700k/s lady said thats what i should be getting but then i said wait a minute wont MS have big servers with wide pipes of bandwith!? um.. yes i agree said the lady. She said other people have reported the same issue ie with youtube slow etc and said it could be something there end! and that she will forward onto a technician.

Im using a ADSL 2+ belkin router in HU17 .

Someone near me has ADSL2+ connection of 14MB on their unrestricted wifi ( which i told them to restrict!!) so god knows whats going on!

It's ridiculous.  In terms of YouTube, I have to find music etc. that has no video, just a static background, otherwise I have to pause for 3 or 4 minutes while it buffers enough.  Channel 4 on Demand, I can watch after about 1AM but not before, I find myself Sky+ing a lot more where as I used to rely on this.

Post some speed test and time details in this thread http://karooforums.net/index.php/topic,929.15.html or PM them to him/her.

You get various responses from the helpdesk. Some people totally mis interprate what you are asking, others are just trying to sell you ADSL2+ (and everything i have heard about ADSL2+ tells me it's not a solution to this problem), others just basically say that's how it is, live with it, some do persist.
