Being the cynic that i am  Cheesy  i cannot help but feel this is Karoo's way of stemming the the amount of downloading going on and free up a bit of bandwidth.
We know they have problems coping with bandwidth demand and a few 'legal' letters is sure to put the fear of god into a high percentage of people who will then refrain from downloading further.

Nah, in this instance I'll stick up for Karoo. It's sod all to do with them, they get a legal document ordering them to inform ACS Legal who was using a particular IP address at a particular time. ACS Legal are reknowned for doing this, it's their bread and butter.

They are bad people but they are not breaking the law. Unfortunately the law is on their side so you do have to deal with this. I think that the forum members have probably posted enough information now to give you some ideas about how to deal with this situation. If you are still unsure it might be a good idea to speak to the citizen's advice bureau.

Re-read my last post and realised it could have sounded a little unsympathetic. That's really not my intention, what happened to you is absolutely bang out of order and I hope you get sorted soon. If it's any consolation I doubt very much that these jokers will actually bother trying to take anyone to court, because as soon as they do, their argument will fall apart and the bottom will fall out of their cash cow.

That said, your original advice is very much relevant. Do not ignore this, ensure you reply to their letter.

Hi gibbo, I guess all we can do is repeat the info elsewhere in this thread. Work your way through the website here. http://beingthreatened.yolasite.com

Good luck

Make sure you set up a password on your router otherwise dont be surprised that you are receiving that kind of letters.

And after reading this I feel a little less sorry for Karoo. According to the article they happily handed over customers on a plate while TalkTalk refused to do so......

Oh, and here's the criteria ACS:Law use to 'assess' whether or not they bother pursuing an attack against an individual http://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&q=cache:A3SZ2awgwSsJ:www.sunshinepress.org/leak/davenport-lyons-and-digiprotect-filesharer-actionpoints.pdf+davenport-lyons-and-digiprotect-filesharer-actionpoints.pdf&hl=en&gl=uk&sig=AHIEtbRSQH1uUcMtMpPczxqPx_dapOnBZg
