Doesn't make much difference unless you are running extensions off your master socket which have the bell wire attached.
You would be better just disconnecting the ring/bell wire...

see: http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/socket.htm

Agree with Adrian. I bought an iplate a while ago and came to the same realisation that if you dont have any extentions from the master socket its a pointless piece of kit..

Cheers guys had an extension fitted upstairs 10 years ago by KC, don't know if it was fitted from the master socket, will the check the wiring in that tonight, Removed bell wire from master socket a Year ago. But did a speedtest.net with the test socket inside the master socket last night and got around .7mb more, what  does this indicate a problem with.
also where is the exchange nearest to me HU5 Priory Road area,

The extension must come from the master socket somehow, unless the extension was a new line install. I am not sure which exchange you will be connected to you could ask tech support 606101 if you wanted to find out. If you disconnected the ring wire at both ends then it should have benefit you. The best way to find your connection speed is to look at the details from the router, what router are you using?

Router is Belkin G MIMO about 3 years old, i'm on the old max package 3.

Runtime Code version    F5D9630-4Av1_UK_1.00.04

Downstream       Upstream

Data rate (Kbps)
6911    447

Noise margin (dB)
12.2    30.5

Output power (dBm)
20.1    12.1

Attenuation (dB)
35.5    23.2

The Speed is definately slower the last week or so just over 1mb the last couple of nights.
The Karoo technician on the help line did something to one of the ports tuesday night but no real speed increase.
Extension Had wires 2,3 & 5 removed wire 3.
sky player was unwatchable last night iplayer was better.
personally i think karoo are trying to force people onto the new packages.

Yea the MAX packages seem to be grinding to a halt, regardless of which MAX package you are on (they were always the same MAX 1-4 anyway)
Only way you would get more speed there is by removing any extensions if you have any, using the main socket or a master faceplate filter and possibly having your line SNR target set to 6 (at the risk of instability depending on how your line handles interference)

But you would still be slowed down by the shaping on MAX at peak times. You would need to upgrade if you wanted faster speeds throughout, should be looking at around 12-14mbit with those stats.

I wonder what KCs plans are for next generation access and faster speeds, ADSL2+ has been around with some providers using it since 2005ish, can't really get any more out of the existing lines unless fibre is taken to the cabinets like what BT are doing.
