my HTTP is about 270~ (pick something ftp://  80.84.50.245/  - beware of space it puts http:// in front automatically. very annoying!

other members of this forum are getting much higher than this. Can anybody else confirm they are getting higher speeds than me?

I am constantly told that the shaping is "all are created equally" but I strongly suspect this is not the case. Beverley exchange has consistently been slower than friends of mine on Hull exchanges. I challenge Karoo to prove that the shaping is being delivered equally...

Quite frankly I can understand being shaped on ssl newsgroups and p2p downloads. This I can accept. But being shaped on HTTP.. I wonder if they are to give me an excuse along the lines of "Hull city were playing" again.

Willcocks, we did in fact see a large spike in video traffic during the game on Wednesday, which caused the average throughput speeds for other traffic to drop.

I can assure you that the traffic management system does not discriminate between different geographic locations. Customers in Beverley should get the same share of the available bandwidth as everyone else in the Karoo area.

Cheers

So basically there's no point being on ADSL2 with Karoo because the network can't cope when footballs on!

Yes, might as well be on ISDN half the time to be honest!  I'm still on the Max packages cos otherwise ill be paying at least £10 more a month, and while the football match was on, I couldn't stream any legal content (iPlayer, 4oD).

The industry and regulators seem to have got so attached to connection speeds, nobody is focusing on actual available bandwidth, who cares if you live on top of the exchange and sync at 24mbps, when just cos there is a football match on you cant actually get 1mbps.

So why do I always see varying values for myself compqred to other customers on the same package from the same download location with line speed not being an issue?

Quite frankly the evidence does not support your statement. Or there is something truly wrong with my internet... which I have argued for many years now.

Have you had an Engineer look at your line/wiring etc? I would have sworn until I was blue in the face there was nothing wrong with my line, but there was and they fixed it.

I'm probably barking up the wrong tree though, you seem switched on about these things!

Hi Willcocks,

If you are experiencing slower downloads than friends on the same package at the same time, downloading the same content from the same server(s), then this is a problem I'd like to understand and if possible resolve. It is not Karoo policy to discriminate in the way you suggest.
If you would care to PM me with details I will be happy to investigate further.
I will need the login name (not password!) or phone number of the ADSL lines involved along with screenshots showing what is being downloaded with time(s) etc.

Cheers

Currently my line is max speed - a terrible 420kb/s. This on all protocols. This is fast but I certainly do not expect it to last!

Not willing to disclose anything - do not want to involve external parties in this.

I can tell you though that your shaping is not unilateral in any way!

Just look at the conversation me and Dylan had earlier in this thread. He was dragging 600 off my FTP yet I could only manage 300. I am very interested in moving back to your ADSL 3 mb package if this is possible? *laughs. Better ISP in 2004? Yes this is reality.. surely not?
