Max option 2, usually do around 2-3mb during the day - evening around 0.5-1mb recently. SNR sitting around 6-8db on an evening.

bobthebuilder, that's about the fastest you're going to get with ADSL, also ADSL2+ wont offer you much more, it would be about 6.5-7Mbit perhaps.

richardmyers, you should be able to get around 4-4.5Mbit with that kind of attenuation, but it will depend on your wiring, the router you are using and if you are using a master filtered face plate or not.

Wiring seems good, using master socket at the moment and using a Netgear DG834G v4. If I could get around 4mb and pay around the same amount I'd move to ADSL2, can't afford an extra £10 per month though. Maybe in the new year :p

Surprised you aren't getting slightly better speeds then, the 834Gv4 uses a broadcom ADSL chipset so should work better with KCs newer DSLAMs. It's possible you're on an older DSLAM... KC should be able to tell you what kind of DSLAM you are on, and may change your port if they think you will able to get a better service. You may find your speeds improve if you use a filtered faceplate as opposed to plug-in splitters as they are better at filtering noise etc... http://www.solwise.co.uk/adsl_splitters.htm (ADSL-NTEFACE)

I'll fire off an email to Tech Support seeing if there's anything that can be done, when I originally moved in to this house they put me on a strange profile (can't remember the name exactly but 'reach-*something*' sounds right - basically it was to do with interleaving though from what I remember and it meant I couldn't SSH into any servers without making a cup of tea first >_< I was getting just over 3mb, when they placed me back on a normal profile I took the speed decrease. Thanks again

Extended reach? That would probably increase your latency (due to the high interleave) quite a lot, doubt you want that The following is from a line which is worse than yours, but using a similar netgear router: http://download.adriandaz.co.uk/dmt20091024_2239.pngThe line is on a new package, but the router is set to use ADSL only, NOT ADSL2+ What response times do you get from pings to www.bbc.co.uk and www.thinkbroadband.com ?

When the popped me back on normal packages ping times went back to normal, happy server admining for me Thanks for the screenshot, that doesn't surprise me. Before I moved here, Hotham Road North, I was literally just around the corner on Hartoft Road. My attenuation at Hartoft Road was 57db, but I got around 4mb. Hence why when I moved in to Hotham Road North I contact Karoo asking why I was getting 2.5-3mb when I could get 4mb with slightly worse attenuation - then the whole thing with the extended reach (sounds about right from memory), massive interleaving and super high latency kicked in; faster download speeds, marginally, but just couldn't live with it. bbc.co.uk average 34ms thinkbroadband.com 32ms

It appears you may be on an old DSLAM, they usually have higher latency and provide lower sync speeds. I am on an ADSL2+ profile with standard interleaving and get about 22ms to both of those sites. The interleaving and error correction on the ADSL2+ packages adds around 6-10ms latency. If I sync up just using ADSL then I get around 12-14ms to both of those sites. So basically you are on old kit and it's slowing you down
