Not cable no, but they seem adamant they are offering ADSL and Phone packages.
A nice monthly saving for me if the speed is reasonable, i wouldn;t mind a slight drop to be honest i just want away from karoo and KC if at all possible.

Ah, OK - Just checked the new customer FAQ for info on ADSL services..... Notice this:

What do you need to get Virgin Broadband in a non-cable area?
Just these:

    * BT phone line
    * Debit or credit card
    * Broadband modem or router
    * PC or MAC which meets the minimum specifications

I gave Virgin a call and it seems that the people who can answer for definate have gone home for the day.

The lady I spoke to said that my HU* postcode appears on their system, but just as a referal to the national unit (I imagine all non Virgin cable area postcodes do).

If anyone wants to try tomorrow the number is:

0845 045 0001 - Virgin National, 8am till 8pm.

Hi Dylan, I called and placed my order this evening, i got a phone call back saying that their ordering systems where down at the moment so i will be called back tomorrow to confirm my order, I have now spoken to 3 people all of which said that they could offer phone and adsl to my address,

BUT to be honest i am very skeptical,  do not hold out much hope that they will provide but it is worth a shot and will be a decent monthly saving,

Website doesn't instil confidence in my view, going on about BT line then checking the address then asking me to check my BT telephone number... Hmmm, I dunno. IF this comes off it's a massive sneak-up on Hull, which will undoubtedly benefit many - go for it folks and best of luck, I hope you DO get connected Cheesy

Erm, just entered Phone Number and Post Code, found my address.

Your broadband
We've just tested your phone line and it looks like the speed we'll be able to deliver to your home is between 1.5Mbps and 2.0Mbps *.

Upto 20Mb service and i could only recieve that? I can get full 8MB with Karoo

Same here, it's becuase they're not taking the telephone number into account as it isn't a BT number (I think)

http://www.ofcom.org.uk/consult/condocs/retail_markets/statement/

Quote
Competition in Hull

1.16 We have concluded that KCOM still has SMP in all the narrowband retail markets in Hull. However, we consider that there are grounds for future further review of the application of the remedies we have imposed on KCOM, for both the residential and business markets.

1.17 With respect to the residential markets we are concerned that, in the absence of competition, residents of Hull will not have access to emerging trends in bundled services, allowing both savings through the purchase of multiple products and future innovation in service offerings.

1.18 We propose to discuss with KCOM options for the development of new bundled services, subject to controls commensurate with the SMP KCOM continues to hold.

1.19 With respect to the business markets, we accept that there is some evidence that the access of larger businesses to narrowband services provided through leased lines may mean that KCOM has market power in this segment of the market has reduced. We propose to undertake further examination of this market segment to determine whether it is appropriate to modify or suspend the application of some of KCOM SMP conditions for a sub-group of their business customers.

Perhaps they are looking at competition so maybe alternatives may be available in the future.

Any news on virgin yet? they taken your money?

Virgin rung me back to say there is still a problem with ordering system....

Strangly if you go to comparethemarket and put in a hull / bev postcode there are now a lot of broadband products available where as before you just got an error message saying no products avaialble in your area.

Also my colluege at work has contacted BT whom confirmed that he could have bt total broadband, again within the KCom area, so he has signed up and the order is currently in the processing stange.

In Beverley most people can receive BT phone lines if they want to pay for a very expensive install (£120 I think it is now?). There is BT all over the place. Unfortunately the closest exchange is in leconfield, so you are very likely to get 512k.

Please also bare in mind i'm not aware of any LLU presence in leconfield, so it will be IPstream if anything. Which is worse than Karoo. Theres no 21CN either, so it's ADSL Max (8mb).

Standard ADSL RAG results
You cannot receive 2Mbps ADSL
You may be able to receive 1Mbps ADSL
You may be able to receive 512kbps ADSL
(Engineer visit likely)
You may be able to receive 256kbps ADSL
(Engineer visit likely)
