Hi all

Don't know if this has already been raised but I have just found out from a colleuge that from 1st September Karoo are doubling the out of bundle usage to £2 perGB. Strange thing is that kcom have not informed me of this change. however they have put a message on the usage page of the user login area.

I am currently on mid1 and go over usage ay about 12gb so this is going to become costly, the only reason I say on this package is I need a monthly paper invoice for my ads service to submit to work and only get this as I go out of bundle,

Are you not able to change your package to Mid2?

I would like too, but then won't receive a paper bill which I need for work, guess I could stop paying by dd then they would invoice me but you have to pay more

Well as we all know we can't move to another provider,, however good news for me, kcom have seen my post on this forum ( obtained my account details based on my email address) and contacted me, they have moved me on to mid2 so that will cover my usage with no excess plus they have agreed to send me a paper bill each month even if I don't have any excess usage, so I am happy with that

I wonder if Karoo would have done this before the wireless providers started to take their customers, I have never heared of anyone recieving a good will gesture made to them especially for free.

I and many others are still on the old max services getting "shafted" and forced to move to the newer packages, that I see as 'lesser' services since your very limited in your usage.

Well I for one will leave kcom as soon as another provider moves into the area, when u see the bundled services available from sky or virgin you just see how badly we are shafted.

I for one would be very happy to see kcom fold and other providers to move in

I don't know about wanting them to fold, as for any local company you would want them to do well. But if they're going to provide services like they do, you would expect them to at least be competitive with the market. Problem is they have no reason to lower their prices with their situation and offcom

As for the other providers, have you been following these forums about the wireless ISP's ? AirNetHull and NextGenUs.

It might be worth having a look, they both have good offers and with either of them you would be saving money in about 6months compared with karoo.

You are aware that Sky's broadband is a loss leader aimed at pulling customers away from Virgin? I can't ever see Karoo being as 'competitive' as Sky mate.

Hmm, I think I heard about this price increase. I don't know that it will make much difference as they seem set on charging me ~£70 a month anyway for additional bandwidth - even when I didn't use the internet at all for a whole month when my old server died.

Of course, they may double that and charge me around £140 a month but they can do what they like for all I care, I'm out of that contract come November and hopefully onto NextGenUs, otherwise I shall have to make do with AirNet (which is not really an improvement other than the fact it might actually work for more than an hour at a time). Here is a crap fact, I still have the old 10Gb limit on my account.

Only thing that would make me stay with karoo is;

Speeds >= 10mb up/down consistently,
Uncapped monthly usage (or at least a reasonable amount),
Less strict FUP, none of this speed capping at times when you just get home from work and are able to use the internet,
Reduce them damn extortionate fees.

The only thing they do have is low pings from my experience.

Speeds >= 10mb up/down consistently,
Never going to happen over ADSL. you would need cable or fibre.

Uncapped monthly usage (or at least a reasonable amount),
Uncapped isn't going to happen at those speeds it just wouldn't be feasible, caps are here to stay sadly Sad. what is reasonable to one person isn't going to be for another. for instance 100GB per month is more than reasonable to me on pro.

Reduce them damn extortionate fees.
Which fees? if you're talking about the ones for over usage then yes they should £2 per GB is excessive.

Why do you think uncapped not going to happen at them speeds? Other isp's do it, the wireless providers in Hull for example.

With internet speeds getting faster more applications will start using more data, games will gradually increase in in net usage as they become more advanced, the main usage would come from streaming hd video I would imagine which personally I would do alot more of if my connection was good enough. They need to increase the usage limit if they are to 'stay in the game' as it were.

As for pricing, everything not just the overusage charge is extortionate for what you actually get. The pricing structure should be more like you pay for what you get. Since I get a MAX of 2mb down I would expect to pay for a line of that quality. They are basicly taking money from us and not getting us what we pay for. Would anyone pay for a toaster that doesnt toast?
