Hi there guys, first time poster - brought here because im very confused and feel angered by the lack of support i'm recieving from customer services, and i'm not even a karoo customer... yet.
Within the next month, i will be moving to the hull area, and I was wanting to know the kind of speeds i can come to expect when living there. (Anything can beat the 512kb/s i recieve currently living out in the country near york)
The new property is connected to the skirlaugh exchange. Around 4.4km straight line distance.
I do a check using the karoo speed checker on my postcode, and it claims that with ADSL2+ devices, i will be able to recieve a average of 3MB/s, which is great for me!
However, just above that it claims that with standard ADSL devices, i will only get 0.5MB/s. Bad times!
This has led me to some questions, that when emailed the support, recieved the most pathetic answers ever, which almost seemed like they tried to avoid even helping at all.
Which quoted speed is the one I will recieve? Why is there such a huge range? Is all of hull adsl2+ complient? Is there anywhere that lists all of Kcoms exchanges? Or are they the ones which are listed as BT exchanges online?
One thing i noticed, is when I checked a postcode which is bang smack in the middle of skirlaugh, the speed map has "No data" for ADSL2+ speeds! How is this possible? When the property which will soon be my new home has a capability of 3MB/s using ADSL2+ and it is apparently connected to that exchange, just located out of skirlaugh itself.
Thankyou for all your help in advanced.
Scott

The village exchanges are not ADSL2+ enabled.......yet. They will be in the near future. Just standard ADSL at present.

It begs the question, if you are moving to Skirlaugh why not just try the BT route first, rather than Krapoo? Its only ADSL Max (Upto 8Mbps) though. http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange/MYSKR

In my own experience, you should just expect the lowest speed, because I have never seen a line exceed the maximum ADSL1 speeds, in fact, a couple of lines I tested went slower in ADSL2+ mode and kept disconnecting - though this might just be in my area (HU9 - mostly Preston Road and Greatfield) for all I know.
If you can get BT there you would probably be better seeing what they could do for you. As for e-mailing customer support, you actually got a reply? That never happened to me, the best thing to do with KC customer support is go into KC's building and ask for it, they will the tell you that you wasted yout time and to go home and ring them instead of bothering them there as they apparently can't help... problem was, my line wasn't working at that time.
I wonder if NextGenUS is available where you are going - or something similar would probably be the faster option, though I don't know myself the availability of such things, perhaps another member knows about this.

Just to update the situation - I rang the customer support explaining my queries, and they tell me that i'm not even connected to the Skirlaugh exchange! This means that the various checkers online are wrong. Probably because its part of the KC network, and not BT.
I did however get multiple people assuring me that my speed will be around the 3mb/s speed, which I am fine with. I shall just have to wait and see.

I am totally confused, Skirlaugh is a BT exchange, not a KC one. Is anyone else confused?

It's a KC expansion area so will have KC active cabinet equipment not a KC exchange.

In which case, I would stick with BT anyway and have a whole range of ISP options including Eclipse if he really feels the need.

Just checked on BT's website HU11 5EA Benningholme Lane Skirlaugh and it shows that BT broadband is avialable. Have you asked anybody in the village who there internet provider is?

I physically rang BT - They said its not available.
The house has KC phone links.
Regardless of all this, I'm going with AirNet.
8MB down 7MB up
Cheaper than KC, BT, and no download limits. Fantastic
Lock the thread please if you wish.
